Rubberized mulch pads for dog run?

Our back fence butts up to a major road, and our two dogs main hobby in life is to patrol the back fence, barking at people walking on the sidewalk, cars, squirrels, and just about anything else that moves. This involves running up and down the fence line, barking and carrying on. Needless to say, this has worn a trail in the grass along the fence. After it rains and we let them out, they do their thing, but come in all muddy. I was thinking of placing strips of that rubberized mulch mats down on top of the trail to help eliminate the mud and still give them comfort and traction to run and carry on. Are these rubberized mulch mats OK for pets to run on? I really don’t want to poison the dogs!

They’re fine for your dogs to run on, but I wonder how long they’d last. Maybe invest in some high-traffic perennial grass seed and plant that along the fence?

Absolutely. If you can find a way to keep them in place, I think that’s a great solution! I’d be curious to know how long they last under the wear of dog nails.
